Read: Oral Health in America
Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General, was published in 2000. Although this document may seem dated, is was so instrumental in changing the way we all think about "health" that it is still referred to in many presentation and professional dental articles. It marked the beginning of including oral health in a person's overall health. Oral health is integral to general health. The report outlined the progress made in previous decades to incorporate preventive measures to improve dental health. However, not all Americans are reaping the benefits of things like fluoridated water, preventive cleaning appointments, wholesome foods and even a new toothbrush every 3 months!
For this week I would like you to read Chapter 1 "What is Oral Health?" and Chapter 2 "The Craniofacial Complex". Make note of any significant points as they will be useful for future conversations in the forum discussions.
