Sample Proposal papers

Below are samples from student of previous years. Note the different styles but the content is the same.

1. My idea for the final project was what I stated in the forum from last week. I think that since America has let oral health and it’s importance slip, one way of correcting that would be to implement it into health classes all the way through high school, but especially in elementary and middle school. This could be taught by a hygienist that would be able to answer any of their questions and demonstrate how to take care of their oral health, sending the students home with information about clinics, like IUSB that offer cleanings at a very low cost. To go along with schools and improving oral health particularly in our community would be to offer free or reduced price cleanings for students that qualify, (low income or lack of dental insurance) for a week every fall or summer. For the kids that don’t have access to dental care, this once a year cleaning would be much better for them than nothing.

2. My idea for the final paper and project proposal deals with working to increase access to dental health care across the country. Access to dental treatment or, the lack thereof, is causing a lot of pain and suffering for many American adults and children across the U.S. Some of this issue deals with the fact that many Americans don’t have dental insurance or families have Medicaid, which a lot of private practices don’t accept. As we have discussed this semester, many hygienists and dental health care providers need to be working together in order to help make more access to care readily available.  Along with making more dental treatment available, Americans need to stay informed and educated on oral health and good hygiene. I truly believe that lack of education about oral health is the root to many problems and this health care crisis for many Americans. Along with this lack of education to children and adults, many families cannot afford dental insurance. Without insurance, one cannot receive the treatment that they need from the majority of dental offices across the nation. Although this has been an ongoing problem in our country for many years and may be being revised, I believe that we need a change and we need it now. Too many American’s are suffering from lack of oral care treatment and we need to find a solution. I feel that the government needs to step in to help alleviate this life-threatening issue.  So much focus is put on healthcare by our government, yet dental care seems to be overlooked. Although adults, teens, and children must receive more education on the importance of oral hygiene and care, I feel that us as hygienists or any dental care providers should step up to force the importance of this topic into our communities, as well. One way in which we could work to spread knowledge and care into the community is by having more free or reduced rate health fairs and clinics. At these fairs we could work to educate all of the attendees in a brief presentation then work with each patient one on one with their individual concerns and needs. As well as having these health fairs, I feel like it would be a good idea to make dental care more accessible to our community. As we have seen, various restaurants, and food trucks, like “meals on wheels,” have grown in our world today by popular demand. Why could we not have a dental office on wheels then too? Having an accessible and mobile dental care facility with a full dental team available at our convenience seems like a great solution. Not only will the mobile office work to help people across the nation, it will work as a way to advertise and help spread the word on dental care treatment. With the convenience of this idea and lower rate care, I feel like enough people would utilize this modern way of care to resolve some of their healthcare needs. Although this is just an idea, I know that more can be done to diminish the lack of dental care in our world.

3. It has been researched and proven that caries are on the rise in children. “Some 6 out of 10 children in the United States have one or more decayed or filled primary teeth by age 5 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Center for Health Statistics 1997).”  I want to decrease this number and plan to do so by education, which could help with prevention. I also found it to be outrageous that 1 out of 3 children see a dentist once a year.  I want to increase this number and plan to do so my education of parents of the importance of oral health cares. To help solve this problem, I plan to create a lesson plan to educate and make parents aware of the importance of oral health care in their children.  I will implement this in pediatric doctor’s offices.  When parents bring their children in for their 1 and 2 year check up a dental hygienist will also be there to educate them on their child’s oral health.  My hope with this plan is to decrease the number of caries in children by having parents educated on proper oral care and the importance.  If parents know proper oral care and its importance in children, hopefully caries can be prevented from even starting
