Case Analysis & Trend Report Instructions

 

Many of the fast-changing trends in Social Informatics can only be gleaned from non-academic reading. Throughout this course, you will be responsible for 5 Case Analysis and Trend Reports. In each report you are asked to respond to case questions or summarize stories that highlight how individuals and societies are shaping information technology trends and vice versa.

 

Some places you might visit for news and trending information:

  • The daily issues of New York Times (including the Sunday edition)
  • The daily issues of the Wall Street Journal (Monday through Friday)
  • Either Time or Newsweek (once weekly)
  • CNN daily
  • The Washington Post daily 
  • Google News daily

 

You may also visit and use additional sources such as Wired Magazine, or any of the tech sites such as ComputerWorld, Slashdot, and the following technology and IT news list:

  • Wired.com Links to an external site. - Wired.com it gives a depth coverage of the future trends in technology. This website gives the news about new gadgets, autopia, science, entertainment, business, security devices, video series, and design.
  • DigitalTrends.com Links to an external site. - Digitaltrends.com, “upgrade your lifestyle” slogan of this websites says it all about this website. It features breaking news for mobiles, computers, gaming devices, home theater and lifestyle products. It also features the information about cars, music, and photography. It also features the news for apple. you can also find best iphone applications.
  • Techradar.com Links to an external site. - This website gain your knowledge about technology. It has many trending topics like new released tablets, mobiles and laptops. This website is also rate the mobiles and tablets. You can also check the technologies that are added to your cars at this site. It also features the news for android operating system.
  • Technorati.com Links to an external site. - Technorati.com used to helping the bloggers and tech website owners to get succeed by collecting, researching and distributing in the global online conversation. It also feature news content related to cloud technology, operating systems like android, apple ios, and gadgets.

 

Select and expand on items you think will be of real interest to discuss in each report.  Note the date and the publication in which the article appeared. See the attached sample template for reference on how to compile your report. Describe why you think each of the stories you have picked has some bearing on the topic of social informatics. Please don’t just summarize from the sourceand don't copy them; discuss and provide your own point of view with enough information to talk comfortably about the stories you have chosen. Power point presentations can be used as visual aids. YouTube or other videos are not allowed for this assignment. 

 

Save the file as Trend Report_YourName or GroupName and upload with each assignment as an attachment.

 

The maximum number of points you can each receive for fulfilling this assignment is 50 points. You may collaborate with other learners in this class and complete these assignments as a group.
