Is your computer ready?

Before you get started with your online coursework, we need to check a few things on your computer to make sure it is ready for online learning.  The Internet browser is an important factor in making sure everything works during the semester.

Canvas supports the last two versions of every browser release but it has been our experience that Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari work the best in Canvas.

We highly recommend updating to the newest version of whatever browser you are using as well as the most up-to-date Flash plug-in.

Required Plug-ins:

To use all the features of Canvas, it's required that you download the plug-ins necessary for your computer. If you just downloaded a new browser, you can skip this step, because the Internet browser should be up to date. If you already have one of the recommended browsers, it would be a good idea to make sure everything is current. Below is a list of plug-ins that you need.

Adobe ReaderUsually required to read PDF files.

JavaA free program that makes it possible for many communication features to work effectively. For example, Chat applets work on the Java platform. Without Java, Chat applications will not work in Canvas. You may choose to install Java now, or wait to see if your instructor uses features within Canvas that require it.
