Differentiating Between Assignments & Activities
Highlights:
Graded Tasks (Assignments).
- Used to challenge students' understanding and help assess competency by using a variety of media.
- Tasks include:
- Assignments: can be submitted online through text entry, file uploads, media recordings, Google Docs, URLs, or Canvas pages.
- Discussions: a Canvas assignment that will grade student response to discussion topics.
- Quizzes: can be used to conduct a survey or assess a student's comprehension of course content.
- External Tools: LTI technology to link to a third-party application or website.
- Not Graded: Any Canvas activity with a due date, but no points or grades will be given for completing the assignment.
- Graded tasks triggers a new entry in your gradebook.
Ungraded Tasks (Activities)
- Afford students the opportunity to absorb new information, practice a new-found skill, or interact with a group to begin solving a problem.
- Ungraded tasks are not visible in your gradebook.
