Course Description

This course is an introduction to the techniques that scientists use to answer empirical questions. Research designs and approaches are not “one size fits all”. The research question drives the study design and other methodological considerations. In turn, our various disciplines determine the types of questions we ask. This course intends to guide graduate students to think about, negotiate, articulate, and execute the research methods in their disciplines. To this end, this course presents a balance of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, so that students understand the major elements of scientific research and their applications to specific issues in their respective disciplines.
