Internship reminders:

  • Experiential Learning is a pre- or co-requisite for the capstone class, BUS-J 401. Permission for BUS-J 401 will not be provided until an experiential learning proposal (internship, research project, or study abroad) has been submitted and approved. Most business students choose an internship for their experiential learning requirement either with a new employer or by arranging special projects and/or responsibilities with their current employer. Internships are usually completed during a student's last three or four semesters.
  • Students must complete prerequisite courses prior to proposing an internship. The specific courses required depend on the category of internship:
    • Accounting: BUS-A 311
    • Finance: BUS-F 301
    • Health Services Administration: BUS-H 310
    • Marketing: BUS-M 301
    • Management or Innovation Management: BUS-Z 302
All relevant courses must be completed for internships covering multiple discipline areas.
  • Proposal forms are submitted to the Division office by email (business@iupuc.edu), fax (812.348.7276), or in person (CC 116).
  • DO NOT use Canvas messaging to submit the proposal or any supporting documents.
  • While students can and should accept an internship offer made by the employer before submitting the proposal form, please be aware that hours worked in the internship position prior to approval of the proposal do not count toward the total required.
  • Students should work closely with their internship supervisor to complete the  Download Position and Project Table, which must accompany the proposal form.
  • Students proposing an internship with their current employer must also complete the  Download Current vs. Internship Position Comparison Table to detail how the internship projects and responsibilities go above and beyond those of the current position.
  • Proposal form deadlines
    • At least 3 to 4 weeks prior to the planned start date of the internship (see additional notes below)
