Course workload estimator
How much outside time does your course require? Many faculty tell students that they should spend 2-3 hours outside of class for every hour spent in class, suggesting that students spend 6-9 hours per week on course assignments and studying for exams. But how does that translate into actual assignments?
Rice University has developed a Course Workload Estimator Links to an external site. that lets you input assignments, reading, exams, etc. and estimates how much time the average Rice student would spend each week. Rice is a private research university with a 14% acceptance rate, so IUSB students would probably need more time than this estimator suggests. But it can still be a useful tool when designing your class.
