Tips for the Final Examination
Read the information about taking exams in the student handbook as well as the information and instructions in this exam tips lesson. When you are ready to apply for the final exam, click the “Exam Application” link on your syllabus.
When all your assignments for lessons 1 through 9 have been submitted and graded, you may take the final exam, which will count toward one-third of your course grade.
Content of the Exam
The final exam will be like the assignments. It will consist of five essay questions that will test your understanding of the five novels you’ve read in the course. (The essay questions will not test your ability to recall trivial facts from each novel.) You’ll be asked to respond to four of the questions in thoughtfully-considered, well-written essays. As always, you’ll need to support your opinions by referring to specific examples, preferably quotations, from the course’s five novels.
Preparing for the Exam
To prepare for the exam, carefully review the course’s five novels, making sure you can intelligently discuss their important literary elements, such as setting, characters, plot, conflicts, mood, and themes. Review the study questions, as well as your assignments (particularly your instructor’s comments).
Taking the Exam
You will have two hours to complete the exam. You will be allowed to refer to the course’s five novels during the exam, so be sure to bring the novels with you to the exam site. However, you will not be allowed to use the your study notes, dictionaries, or any other supplementary materials. Good luck!
Important: According to IU High School Program policy, you must earn at least a D− on the final exam in order to pass the course.
