Tenure and Promotion Clock Extension Option

IU has administratively adopted a policy to extend the tenure and/or promotion clock by one year.

Tenure-probationary faculty who are due to go up for tenure and/or promotion in 2020-2021 or later may request to have their tenure and/ or promotion clock extended one year.

Clinical and lecturer rank faculty who are due to go up for promotion to clinical associate professor or senior lecturer in 2020-2021 or later may request to have their promotion clock extended one year.

Faculty who were expected to go up for tenure and/or promotion in 2020-2021 must submit their requests for the year extension by May 15, 2020.

Faculty due to go up in 2021-2022 or later must submit their requests for the year extension by December 31, 2020.

In all cases, faculty should discuss their plans with their chairs or deans before making a decision.

Faculty who decide not to take the extension have their dossiers due on August 28^th to the divisional PTR committee. .

This policy is only applicable to faculty who are required by contract to go up for tenure and/or promotion. This policy does not apply to senior lecturers who are up for contract renewal in 2020-21. Reappointment calendars for other faculty categories do not change.
