This year's keynote speaker is José Antonio Bowen. José Bowen is the author of Teaching Naked and Teaching Naked Techniques.
JoséAntonioBowen is President of Goucher CollegeLinks to an external site.. He taught at Stanford, Georgetown, and Southern Methodist University where he was Dean of the Meadows School of the Arts. He has written over 100 scholarly articles and has appeared as a musician with Stan Getz, Bobby McFerrin, and others. He has written a symphony (nominated for the Pulitzer Prize), music for Hubert Laws and Jerry Garcia, and is an editor for Jazz: TheSmithsonianAnthology. Bowen has been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and on NPR for his book Teaching Naked: How Moving Technology out of your College Classroom will Improve Student Learning (winner of the Ness Award for Best Book on Higher Education from AAC & U) which was followed by Teaching Naked Techniques: A Practical Guide to Designing Better Classes with G. Edward Watson. He is working on a new book, A New 3Rs: Using Behavioral Science to Prepare Students for a New Learning Economy (Johns Hopkins University Press, due 2019) and was awarded the Ernest L. Boyer Award (for significant contributions to American higher education) from the New American Colleges and Universities in 2018.
