Why the Needs Assessment for ASD is Not Just Another Survey

Did you know the Indiana Needs Assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is more than a one-time survey? It’s actually a method of communicating across time the changing perceptions, needs and challenges facing individuals with ASD, families, caregivers and those who provide services and supports to them. Because of that, HANDS in Autism® oversees the ongoing collection, aggregation and analysis of this information for purposes of informing the Inter-agency Autism Coordinating Council (IIACC), Indiana legislators and governmental agencies in order to assist in guiding recommendations and changes in policy, processes, services and programming in Indiana that better supports ASD in our State.Since local needs and challenges are always evolving, we are constantly looking to gather new and updated information across our state. One way communities, families and providers can help ensure the information is up to date for their community, is to help others be more aware of the importance of the survey—and the impact it can have on access to and benefits from services and supports for those with ASD.

Encourage others in your circle of influence to share their insights about ASD in their community.
