Instructions

To begin this optional assignment, give the following article a read:

Elizabeth McCoy:  A Hidden Figure of Industrial Bacteriology

Within this 'quiz' you'll be asked to:

  • Summarize the publication while taking time to make connections to M250 content discussed thus far
    • (1 paragraph or ~5-8 sentences)
  • Write a metacognitive paragraph where you describe an epiphany/clarity/fascination that has arisen from something within this article
    • (1 paragraph or ~3-6 sentences)

I won't be counting sentences unless things are too short or really rambling.  Make an honest effort to take this seriously, but don't spend hours on it.

Oh, and feel free to compose things before you start the quiz and then just copy/paste your paragraphs in.

If you (instead or in addition) want to find another "hidden figure" that relates to microbiology/the course content - feel free!  I have included a discussion board for you all here. This is a great opportunity to find an overlooked (or purposefully overshadowed/hidden) figure that relates to you, your gender identity, your ethic identity, or anything else that makes them interesting to you.  There are a lot of these stories, and they deserve to be told.  If anyone does a great job, I'll likely include their story in my lectures for the related topic next year.  Like I said, they deserve to be told.
