General Considerations

With the threats posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, oral histories should be conducted only with maximum safety precautions. This means that all participants should do interviews over a videoconference or telephone call. 

Despite the fact that you will likely be recording using your computer, smartphone, or tablet, it is still a best practice to have a backup recorder running at all times. So, if you are running a Zoom interview, you should do a backup recording with your smartphone if possible. 

How to Record using a Smartphone or Tablet

Many smartphones and tablets have built in voice recording apps, which can be used in lieu of an Audio recorder. On iOS, the default app is Voice Memos Links to an external site.. How to Record using a Computer

Each voice recorder is unique, so you should check your user's manual. To upload the file to The COVID-19 Oral History Project, you will need to transfer the recording to your computer.
