Tips

When you have completed lessons 1–6, you may apply for the midterm examination. Read the information about taking exams in the student handbook as well as the information and instructions in this exam tips lesson. When you are ready to apply for the midterm exam, click on the exam application link in lesson 7 on your syllabus.

Midterm Format

The midterm exam follows this format:

Listening: 10 points
Grammar and Vocabulary: 55 points
Reading: 10 points
Culture: 10 points
Writing: 15 points

You will have 2 hours to take the exam. You will not be permitted to use your textbook, study notes, electronic devices (e.g., cell phones etc.), or any other supplementary materials when taking the examination. You may, however, need to use headphones. The computer you take the exam on may require headphones for listening to the audio files. Alternatively, your exam supervisor may require that you use headphones so that you will not disturb others while listening to the audio. It is your responsibility to find out from your exam supervisor whether headphones will be required, and to then bring them if needed.

The midterm exam is worth 30 percent of your course grade.
Note: The average of your exam grades must be a D−minus or better for you to pass the course. Even if your lesson grades are excellent, you will not pass the course unless you fulfill this requirement.
