Congratulations on your acceptance into the MSW Program!

This canvas site facilitates e-orientation for students in both the IUPUI (On-Campus) MSW Program on the IUFW campus. Please complete the E-Orientation no later than June 14, 2021. If you have any difficulties with the E-Orientation site, please feel free to reach out to the MSW Program Coordinator and IUSSW/IUFW Campus Director, Jan Nes, jnes@iu.edu.

It is important for you to know which program you have been accepted into, as some modules include information that is specific to on-campus or online students. Additionally, you will receive more specific program information at our face to face 2021 MSW New Student Meet & Greet session on campus on June 21 from 5:00-7:00pm in Kettler Hall, Room 117. Before beginning the modules, review your admission offer letter to identify into which program you have been accepted.

This e-orientation serves as the first touch point to help get you acclimated with your learning community and the tools and technologies that you can expect to use throughout the program. The second touch point takes place in our 2021 MSW New Student Meet & Greet session noted above.

Lastly, Registration information and textbook information appears in Module 6. Once you have completed the E-Orientation, please register for the classes listed and order your textbooks from any vendor of your choice. .

How we'll learn in this course

The course is comprised of 6 modules, which you are required to work through sequentially.

Module 1: Getting Started
Module 2: Program Overview and Expectations
Module 3: MSW Field Education Overview
Module 4: Using the Library Efficiently and Engaging with the Literature
Module 5: Scholarship, Financial Aid, and Student Opportunities
Module 6: Registration Information & Textbooks for Summer 2 and Fall 2021.

This orientation is self-paced and must be completed by the date specified on your orientation letter.

Upon completion of the first 5 orientation modules, information will be provided in Module 6 for group to help you get registered for your summer and fall classes.

Expectations for orientation coursework

One thing to always keep in mind when taking any course is that the others with whom you interact throughout the semester - including me, your instructor - are human beings. The first rule of netiquette is to "remember the human" when you are communicating with me or with your peers. The second rule is to "adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life." It's not likely that you would yell at, mock, or belittle another student in a face to face class so don't do it here. The feeling of anonymity that some people have when they are online can lead to those sorts of behaviors but they are not acceptable here or in any other class.

Please take a few minutes and review all the Core Rules of Netiquette and these considerations for when you are attending class remotely.
