Most behaviour change interventions are highly complex with multiple components that may work in an additive manner or interactively. To understand the causal impact of behaviour change interventions, it is necessary to specify their components as accurately as possible in ways that allow comparison across different types of intervention. This workshop will describe a taxonomy of 93 types of intervention components called ‘Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTs)’ that can be used to specify the content of behaviour change interventions. It will describe the BCT taxonomy, how it was developed, how it has been used, and what the future holds for it.
