Physical Education, First Semester focuses on the Physical Activity Knowledge topics of creating a safe workout space, body composition, and safety risks and factors. You will learn about the Fitness Principles of F.I.T.T., overload, progression, specificity, rest and recovery, and writing a personal goal to improve physical fitness using the SMART criteria. Health Related Fitness topics of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition will be covered. Stress Management and Sports will cover topics of mental, emotional, and physical health, stress strategies of mental imagery and meditation, and relaxation techniques of deep breathing, yoga, and Pilates.
The course includes a required text, Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain. The book can be accessed via Perusall, an online application designed for student interaction and text annotation. There is a required charge of $9.99 (as of July 2022) for access to the book, payable by credit card, within the Perusall app.
