Getting StartedLaunch the DesignPlus Sidebar

The DesignPlus Sidebar is available when the rich content editor is open in the following Canvas tools: Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Pages, Classic Quizzes, and Syllabus. If the Sidebar is not visible in these tools, use the instructions below to temporarily or permanently enable it.

Instructions

Enable the Sidebar

To enable the Sidebar, follow these steps:

  1. Open any Canvas course.
  2. Navigate to a page or content item you wish to edit.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. While in edit mode, use one of the keyboard shortcuts:
    • Windows: Ctrl-1 or Alt-Shift-d
    • Mac: control-1 or option-shift-d
  5. The Sidebar will remain visible until you dismiss it by clicking the in the upper right corner or exit the page. 

Keep the Sidebar enabled

To keep the Sidebar enabled whenever you open the rich content editor:

  1. Open any page, assignment, quiz, announcement, or discussion topic and click Edit.
  2. If the Sidebar is not visible, use one the keyboard shortcuts described in the previous section to enable it.
  3. In the Sidebar, click More Options (︙) and select User Settings.

  4. On the User Settings Page, check one of the following options:
    • Automatically Launch Sidebar - full Sidebar appears whenever you open the Canvas rich content editor.
    • Show the launch button - a Sidebar launch button appears at the upper right whenever you open the rich content editor.

      When this setting is enabled you will click the launch button whenever you want to open the Sidebar.

Your Sidebar settings will remain in effect until you change them or clear your browser cache.
