Introduction to Energy Balance

Eric Plaisance, Ph.D.

Dr. Plaisance is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at UAB. Eric received his PhD in Exercise Science from Auburn University in 2006. He subsequently joined the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine as a post-doctoral fellow where his work investigating the effects of nicotinic acid on the regulation and secretion of adiponectin was funded by the American Heart Association. In 2009, Eric was recruited for an NIDDK sponsored T32 fellowship at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center where he conceived and wrote a successful F32 and K01 award for his work exploring the effects of methionine restriction on components of energy balance and metabolism.

Following a one-year faculty appointment at Pennington, Eric joined the Exercise Science faculty at UAB in 2013 where his work has primarily focused on investigating the effects of exogenous ketone esters on components of energy balance, body composition, and hepatic metabolism in preclinical animal models and humans. In 2022, Eric joined the faculty in the UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences. Dr. Plaisance has over 75 peer-reviewed publications with funding from NIH and other agencies.
