IU Columbus Parking Lots

All IU Columbus parking is managed through One.IU, where you can purchase a permit and pay or appeal a ticket. IUPD Columbus patrols our parking lots and writes citations daily, so be sure to follow these rules:

  • You must have an ST (Student) permit to use student parking in an IU parking lot. Student parking is marked to distinguish it from employee parking.
  • You may not park in Visitor parking, even for a short visit.
  • You must display your parking permit any time you are parked on campus.
  • New permits must be purchased for each semester. Check your parking pass for its expiration date.

Visit our parking webpage for additional information. Links to an external site.

Other Parking

Some parking lots do not require a permit. These lots may be farther from your classroom than our IU Columbus lots, so if you choose not to purchase a permit you should commit to arriving on campus early. Parking lots that do not require a permit include:

  • The parking area along Central Avenue in front of the Columbus Learning Center
  • The parking lots surrounding Ivy Tech
  • The parking lot near the Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AMCE)

Important note: Unpermitted parking spaces fill up quickly each day. To ensure you can find parking on campus, we recommend purchasing a permit.

Compass icon Rideshares

Indiana University hosts the Hoosier Rideboard, a resource for students, faculty, and staff who want to coordinate carpools with each other. When the unexpected happens, students using a university rideshare can qualify for an Emergency Ride Home (ERH) up to three times a semester or six times annually. If you think carpooling might work for you, register for the Hoosier Rideboard now. The more students who register for the Hoosier Rideboard, the more carpool options there will be!

The League of American Bicyclists has designated Columbus, Indiana as a bike-friendly city! Columbus's People Trail is a system of multi-use paths for pedestrians and bicyclists that runs directly past campus. Maps for biking to campus

Bike racks are located near all entrances, and you do not need a permit to use them. Our IUPD Columbus officers recommend using a U-lock to ensure your bike is secure. Always lock your bike to a bike rack, and not to other objects like trees or signs.

Footprint icon Public transportation

The ColumBUS passes conveniently in front of campus on Route 1. At this time, ColumBUS fares have been paused indefinitely, so riding the bus is free! An advantage of riding the bus is the opportunity to use your travel time to study or read on your way to and from class. Each of the city's low floor buses includes a bike rack that can accommodate two bicycles, so you can mix and match your biking and bus-riding options. Click the button below to visit the Columbus, Indiana transit website to learn more about riding the ColumBUS and view route maps and schedules.
