Staying safe

At Indiana University, it is important to keep yourself and the campus community safe. Here are some ways that you can help.

Acceptable Use Agreement

WHEN YOU CREATED YOUR IU USERNAME and passphrase, you signed the Acceptable Use Agreement and accepted certain responsibilities and standards for computer use, which apply to all IU computing resources. Including, but not limited to:

  • Never share your account password(s), passphrase(s), or multi-factor authentication devices with anyone including friends, roommates, family, or IU staff.
  • Immediately notify the University Information Policy Office (it-incident@iu.edu) if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • Take appropriate steps to secure information (e.g., password protection, encryption, etc.) on mobile devices.

IU Notify

IU NOTIFIES THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY OF EMERGENCY AND SAFETY ISSUES on and around campus. In an emergency, Indiana University will send notifications to your phone number, primary IU email address, and any additional phone numbers and email addresses you have registered.

Phishing.IU

PHISHING EMAILS ARE SCAMS that seem to come from a trusted source but trick you into giving up private or financial information or taking unsafe actions.

Even with IU’s sophisticated security measures, YOU are still the best defense against phishing emails.
