Dr. John Shea | Kinesiology

Dr. John Shea Links to an external site. is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. He has held various academic positions, including Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University and Associate Dean at Florida State University. Dr. Shea is a Fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education and a Senior Scholar of the North American Society for Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity. His research interests include motor skills, motor control, cognitive ergonomics, human factors, and workplace wellness.  

Dr. Corey Kalbaugh | Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Dr. Corey Kalbaugh Links to an external site. is an epidemiologist and health services researcher with over 20 years of experience. He is an National Institutes of Health - and American Heart Associated - funded scientist with an extensive history of collaborative work in the health sciences. The animating objective of his current research is to provide clinicians with the best evidence to support the care of patients with peripheral artery disease. His work broadly aims to reduce racial disparities in peripheral artery disease-related treatment and outcomes.

Dr. Danny Valdez | Applied Health Science

Dr. Danny Valdez Links to an external site. is a big data scientist, primarily leveraging social media data and computational informatics algorithms to study, visualize, and interpret applied health behaviors, including mental health markers from social media data, persuasive digital marketing, sexual health attitudes, and misinformation's effect on positive health outcomes..

Dr. Alyssa Lederer | Applied Health Science

Dr. Alyssa Lederer Links to an external site. is an applied behavioral scientist and master certified health education specialist. Much of her current work focuses on enhancing young people's health and reducing health inequities through the design and evaluation of health promotion interventions. She is especially interested in the intersection between health education and behavior change, community-engaged research, and using multiple methods of inquiry. Although Dr. Lederer works on several public health issues, much of her research relates to adolescent and emerging adult sexual health, college student health broadly, and public health workforce development.

Dr. Michelle Del Rio | Environmental and Occupational Health

Dr. Michelle Del Rio Links to an external site.conducts interdisciplinary, and community engaged research to understand the relationships between environmental exposures and social determinants of health and develop low-cost structural interventions for under resourced communities and socially vulnerable populations. Her current projects aim to reduce water insecurity in rural communities in Indiana and prevent chronic low-level lead (Pb) exposure in U.S. children.

Dr. Maria Parker | Epidemiology and Biostatistics  

Dr. Maria Parker Links to an external site. is an epidemiologist whose research interests lie in the field of drug use epidemiology, how drug use and drug use disorders disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, and opportunities for public health strategies. Her focus is on identifying characteristics associated with opioid use at the population level with attention to developing hypotheses that lead to more efficacious interventions or treatment.

Dr. Edlin Garcia | Health and Wellness Design

Dr. Edlin Garcia Links to an external site.'s research agenda focuses on the intersection of mental health literacy and help-seeking behaviors, with the goal of promoting mental well-being in the workplace. Through interdisciplinary approaches, the overarching goal is to develop effective interventions, tools, and resources to enhance mental health understanding and support within the workplace.
