GLH1 Objectives, Audience, Class Size, & Mode of Instruction
Globally Focused Objectives
Depending on the topic and nature of the activity, this strategy can address any of the IU Indianapolis Dimensions of Global Learning, the UN Sustainability Goals, and any culturally or globally focused learning outcome in the instructors’ discipline.
For example, “It’s Snowing” can be used to learn about students participation in internationalized experiences in the communities and contexts in which they live, work, learn, and/serve (IU Indy Dimension of Global Learning (DGL) #7) or Six-Word Memoirs® could be used to “analyze students own beliefs, values, assumptions, experiences, and/or communication styles in respect to those of at least one other culture.” (DGL # 1).
Audience
Interactive activities can be used at both the undergraduate and graduate level and in different types of academic programs such as FYS or Honors.
Class Size
Different interactive activities will be appropriate for different class sizes and there are activities that work for all class sizes. If a class is larger, instructors can call for a specific number of volunteers to share responses for “It’s Snowing” or to share one’s own six-word memoir.
Mode of Instruction
In general, interactive activities can be implemented online, in person or in a hybrid context. Instructors will need to adapt the manner in which the activity is facilitated depending on the mode of instruction – for example, using Zoom rooms instead of physical locations, or using the chat instead of writing on a whiteboard or using poster paper etc. Instructions will also need to be adapted depending on the mode of instruction.
