GLH10 Objectives, Audience, Class Size, & Mode of Instruction

 Globally Focused Objectives

Globally focused objectives instructors can use to guide meaningful conversation can be taken directly or adapted from the IUI Dimensions of Global Learning or developed from Deardorff’s Intercultural Competence Model (2006), Byram’s Intercultural Communicative Competence Model (1997), for example.  

Specific objective statements that can be offered include: 

To develop students' intercultural communication skills and global awareness by providing a platform for sharing and reflecting on diverse cultural experiences, fostering a sense of community and promoting active learning. 

From the IUI Dimensions of Global Learning: 

To analyze their own beliefs, values, assumptions, experiences, and/or communication styles in respect to those of at least one other culture. 

To practice intercultural communication with the intent of cultivating respectful and productive collaboration, dialogue, and engagement with others. 

 Audience

Suitable for undergraduate and graduate students. 

 Class Size

Effective for both small and large classes. Ideal for groups of 10-30 students but scalable to any class size. 

 Mode of Instruction

Online: Can be conducted synchronously via video conferencing platforms with breakout rooms. 

In-person: Suitable for face-to-face class sessions with café-style seating arrangements. 

Hybrid: Effective with some students participating online and others in person.
