Ethics is an integral piece of program development and in preparing students for overseas experiences: from developing critical cross-cultural communication skills on social media; using fair trade as a framework for deep cultural reflection during pre-departure orientation; or considering the integration of case studies or other learner resources to advance ethical foundations to study abroad.

Purpose

Community engagement has always been a core institutional value at IU Indianapolis, especially for Study Abroad. Aiming to prevent risk and harm to communities that host students and faculty is a necessary component of fostering local and global responsibility through global learning. It is important to prepare students to be partners in learning alongside communities and to ensure that overseas programs have a positive impact on students and communities.
