Virtual classroom appears similar to other video conferences but it actually has some specific requirements. For educators, setting up a Virtual Classroom Video Conferencing is more challenging than presenting in an ordinary meeting. Even though video conference platforms are helpful, distance learning itself is challenging. Some learning approaches and strategies need to be adjusted. These are how you can set up a virtual classroom.

The Workspace

First of all, you need to set up your workspace whether it’s a classroom or from your office. General rule: keep it simple and remove distractions as much as possible.  When it comes to distance learning, any distraction means disruption. Avoid excessive background and clean up clutters from your workspace.

Video Conference App

Virtual classrooms typically use the School Video Conferencing System for learning sessions. There are many platforms but you can choose the one that can accommodate your teaching plan as much as possible. Setting up a session for your virtual classroom may vary depending on the platform but there would typically be credentials used to access the classroom.

Technical Testing

Technical issues could be very painful. From internet disconnection to not playing videos, a virtual classroom can experience a serious disruption due to technical issues. At this point, you can simply run a technical Classroom Video Conferencing Camera testing after setting up a separate session prior to the actual scheduled virtual classroom.

Set Guidelines

Like traditional classrooms, you’d need to set guidelines for your virtual classroom. Most importantly, you must inform the guidelines upfront before the first meeting. These would inform students with what they can and can’t do during a virtual classroom. The guidelines may also cover the description of learning activities, set of conducts, general rules, goals, routines, etc.

Connect with LMS

Another important setup is to connect a virtual classroom Video Conferencing System with the Learning Management System(LMS). The connection is important so you can manage your virtual classroom at a streamlined process. You can set the classroom schedule, sync students’ contacts, plan personal meetings, and accommodate all necessary communications for virtual classrooms.

At this stage, you should also prepare how to evaluate the virtual classroom. Only when you can get feedback from the students can you recognize what you should improve. This also informs you of the issues you should take care of related to the learning activities and student’s progress. You can prepare a survey of the learning experience of the virtual classroom.

Publish Classroom Plan

Next, you need to publish the classroom plans including schedule, syllabus, materials, and reference in advance. It’s a part of a flipped learning method where students can prepare themselves for upcoming class with upfront tasks or assignments. If you’ve connected your virtual classroom with LMS, then making a classroom plan would be easier.

Run The Virtual Classroom

Last but not least, the readiness of running a virtual classroom also determines whether it’s successful or not. Setting up a virtual classroom isn’t difficult but it may take more time for preparation, evaluation, and keeping up with development.
