You are to deliver a 8 - 9 minute Informative Speech on a topic pertaining to a topic in your own community where volunteers, help, or resources are needed. Do you have people in your community without food? Does the animal shelter need more resources? You will develop your speech topic based on how you connect with what is needed in your local community.
The main purpose of your speech is to inform -- your main purpose is to educate or instruct your audience.
You must turn in an outline of your speech before you speak as an attachment for this speech. Your outline is part of your speech critique grade.
Your speech will be graded based on the Speech Critique rubric attached in this post.
As audience members you can be asked to respond in some way during other people's presentations. If you do not respond in a timely manner (arbitrarily determined by me) your own speech grade can lose up to five points.
Your speech must include an introduction, thesis, conclusion, at least one of each type of form of support (example, statistic, testimony) properly cited, the proper number of coordinate and subordinate points in the body of your speech, and transitions before your coordinate and subordinate points. A copy of the proper outline format, outline organization, and transitions documents are available in Modules on the Important Files for Reference page.
You are allowed 30 seconds leeway in the timing of your speech. Any amount of time spent under or over the time limits will impact your grade.
As audience members you can be asked to respond in some way during other people's presentations. If you do not respond in a timely manner (arbitrarily determined by me) your own speech grade can lose up to five points.
This speech is worth 50 points.
