ETHICS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Course Overview

Ethical issues relevant to all components of the criminal justice system; law enforcement, the courts, and corrections are examined. The basis for ethical dilemmas and decision making at all stages of the criminal justice system are presented.  Real-life ethical dilemmas are analyzed and discussed for hands-on discussion and resolution.  Topics include determining moral behavior, developing moral and ethical behavior, policy and management issues, professionalism, and ethics for practitioners in criminal justice.

Instructional Goal

Given an explanation of the various ethical systems, theories and standards, students will be able to analyze a variety of ethical dilemmas and determine appropriate resolutions.

Specific learning objectives are indicated at the beginning of each module or unit.
