Studio 2 - Lighting & Mic Workshop

This week in studio, you will get a chance to set up two different lighting setups as well as try out the different kinds of mics available to you in the studio.  You will work in groups of 3 or 4 and move around to three stations in the studio.  At the end of lab, you will compare your results.

At Station 1, you will light and interview scene.  Place two chairs in your side of the studio and light each chair with 3 point lighting.  Make sure that the two people are lit with the same brightness.  Record 10 seconds of this scene cutting back and forth between two e studio cameras.

At Station 2, you will light a singular subject to emulate an emotion using light position, intensity and color. The subject must be in the same pose with the same facial expression for each emotion. Use the following emotions and record each one for 10 seconds with the studio camera:

• Excited
• Lonely
• Angry

At Station 3, you will use the whisper room to monitor the different sounds of the each of the mics provided.  Change the position of each mic and have each member monitor the sound.  Take note of the when the sounds drops off or changes.  

• Lavalier
• Shotgun
• Handheld

You will be graded on your participation and execution of each of the stations as well as your written critique on canvas.
