What is a protected activity?

Protected activities include:

  • opposing an unlawful act,
  • filing a discrimination complaint, and
  • advocating for a civil right under these laws.

Examples:

  • A teacher writing a letter to the College President challenging policies that are discriminatory, such as distribution of financial aid to students of different races, on grounds that they are disproportionate.
  • A student filing a complaint alleging race discrimination under the College's internal grievance process.
