This outline, provided by the Mathematics Department, provides important information concerning your D117 class and also presents a schedule of topics, suggested homework problems, and examinations. Please note that individual instructors may vary the problem assignments, and the amount of time devoted to individual topics.
EXAMS AND CALCULATOR USE:
There will be 3 in-class exams during the semester and a comprehensive final exam at the end of the semester. The final examination in D117 is a departmental exam. NO CALCULATORS OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED ON ANY OF THE EXAMS. ALL STUDENTS MUST TAKE THE DEPARTMENTAL FINAL EXAM AT THE SAME TIME. Cell phones, calculators, computers, iPods, iPads, cameras, and such are similarly not allowed and are to be removed from your desk before your instructor begins passing out the exam materials. The dates and time for the final exam was announced in the Schedule of Classes, and by registering for this course, you committed yourself to take this exam at the following scheduled time:
EXAM 1: Wednesday, September 14 in class.
EXAM 2: Wednesday, October 12 in class.
EXAM 3: Friday, November 4 in class.
FINAL EXAM: Wednesday, December 14 from 2:45-4:45 pm (Location TBA).
If you have any potential conflict with any examination, you must inform your instructor during the first three weeks of classes and complete a departmental Request for Variance form. You will be informed in due time if your request has been approved. IMPORTANT NOTE: Most students may NOT take the departmental final exam in their regular classrooms. Your instructor will announce the location of your exam.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The Mathematics Department expects its students to comply fully with the University’s policies on academic integrity. The usual policy for students caught cheating in D116 includes a course grade of F, and additional penalties may include probation, suspension, or expulsion from the university. Cheating cases are always reported to the Office of Student Ethics.

1.) DEPARTMENTAL HELP SESSIONS IN SWAIN EAST, ROOM 340: MONDAY thru THURSDAY 4:00 - 6:00 pm (starting 2nd week of classes)
2.) ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTERS IN BRISCOE, FOREST, TETER: Sunday thru Thursday 7:00pm – 11:00pm (starting 2nd week of classes)

The homework and any quizzes will collectively count as the remaining 20% of your grade. The following scale will determine the letter grade that you’ll have earned at semester’s end:
