IU East Campus History

Indiana University East Campus History

Welcome to the Indiana University East Campus History course! This course is designed to provide students with an overview of IU East's campus history and the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of a developing campus. Students can learn about the different degrees and courses that developed over time, how student life has changed, the impact of student research, writing, and art, and the faculty and staff members who were instrumental in helping IU East succeed in being a high quality institution of higher education in this region of Indiana.

Primarily using material from the archives, students will be able to access primary documents, photographs, and even oral histories to learn about the campus' history, as well as the faculty and students who worked at and attended IU East. This course is meant to be informative, interactive, and fun, providing students with a unique perspective on their university and a greater appreciation of their campus.

How the course works:

The modules in this course do not need to be taken in any particular order, although we would suggest at least starting with the IU East Campus Overview to learn the basic background of the history of IU East. Some module use different platforms to present the relevant information in the best possible way, using some tools that link outside of Canvas. Each assignment is also designed to be fun and to allow creativity, but to also help you recall the facts. If you need help accessing any of content presented in this course or if you find you are interested in learning more, please contact IU East Archivist Jesse Whitton at jewhitto@iu.edu. You can also learn more about the creators of this course here at Meet the Instructors

This course is also a work in progress. We are working to continuously add more content from the archives, such as oral histories from alumni, staff, and faculty, more photos, and more details and information about our campus, from annual events and student clubs to changes to within our administration and some challenges we faced. You can also find more information about the collections and content in this course directly from the IU East Campus Archives libguide Links to an external site..
