Prolonged Internships:

Some students will have internship end dates that will extend beyond the last day of the semester in which they are enrolled in the internship course (PBHL-H380). In this situation, an Incomplete (I) grade will be submitted by the instructor at the end of the semester. The grade will be updated as soon as the internship requirements have been met by the student. The requirements must be met within the next semester. To receive an Incomplete (I) the student must be in good standing and passing the internship course at the time the grade is submitted.

Grading:

This course will be graded on a Satisfactory/Fail (S/F) basis. You must complete all assignments, complete the minimum required hours at the internship site, and receive a satisfactory score on the final evaluation completed by your internship supervisor to pass the class.

Attendance Policy:

You have signed an internship agreement with an internship site. This agreement states that you will complete a set number of hours working at this site, gaining professional experience. The schedule that you agreed to with your internship supervisor is to be upheld. Not showing up for your scheduled internship times can result in failure of this class. There is no in-person class meeting element of this course. You are expected to devote your time to your internship experience.

General Expectations:

  • If circumstances arise where the student or employer desire to end the internship prior to the stated ‘completion date’, the student and/or employer must contact the instructor immediately. Failure to contact the instructor may result in forfeit of tuition for the class.
  • Internships may be part-time or full-time. To complete the internship a student must complete at least the minimum working clock hours to be considered for credit (minimum of 240 hours).  Students may exceed the number of hours required.
  • Internships must be supervised in some manner. This supervisor must periodically check the quality and appropriateness of the work being done by the student. If a supervisor is not taking the time to supervise and check-in with the intern, the student should contact the instructor immediately.
  • No retroactive credit will be given for earlier work experience. Hours will only be counted toward the internship after an internship agreement has been signed.
  • Internships will be required to be performed within professional workspaces with opportunity to interact with advanced professionals who demonstrate a normal day-to-day working environment unless otherwise approved.
