What is an infographic?

Infographic is a portmanteau, or mash-up, of the word Information and Graphic. So it stands to reason that infographics are a visual representation of information in some form or another. This could range anywhere from using specific font, color, and placement choices for a short text conveying information, for instance the Instagram or facebook posts that are large text on a colored background, or they could get even more complex by including graphics and charts that creatively utilize symbols to convey large sets of data. 

How is this relevant?

By the end of the module, you will have the tools to create a simple infographic using templates in a web based design platform. Visually appealing information is more likely to hold your audience's attention. If you choose to share your end product out on social media, that will result in more engagement from your followers. You will also learn how to properly convey your authority in speaking on the subject matter through properly citing your sources. In learning how to do this yourself, you'll also practice judging the information authority of other posts by noting how they cite the sources they used to gain the knowledge presented in their posts.
