General Description
No matter what type of riding you want to do, this course will increase your comfort and competence out on the street. This course will be valuable for both beginners and experienced riders. We will review the top things you need to know about being prepared and being equipped to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride. Topics include tips on choosing the right bike for you, essential gear, clothing, carrying cargo, lights, and locks. Most importantly, we’ll highlight the rules of the road and being a safe and confident rider.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Apply essential safety practices for biking and e-scootering, including proper helmet fitting, pre-ride checks, secure parking, legal lighting requirements, appropriate weather-appropriate attire, and routine maintenance for optimal performance and safety.
- Identify and follow traffic principles, rules of the road, and appropriate lane positioning for safe and legal riding. Recognize the impact of your actions in traffic and foster positive interactions.
- Identify common causes of crashes, implement strategies to avoid them, and use techniques to navigate various road hazards.
- Apply defensive riding techniques, including anticipation and awareness, and use various bike facilities effectively for safer travel.
