Dr Bisakha “Pia” Sen is tenured Professor and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Endowed Chair in Health Economics in the Department of Health Policy & Organization, School of Public Health, UAB. She received her PhD in Economics from The Ohio State University, and specializes in health policy, health economics and health services research.
Dr. Sen’s primary interest is investigating the determinants of health behavior, health outcomes, and healthcare utilization for vulnerable populations, with a focus on the role played by social determinants of health, policies at institutional, state and federal levels, and larger environmental shocks. Dr. Sen has developed an extensive research agenda focusing on health outcomes among Alabama residents, with funding support from Alabama Medicaid and Alabama Children's Health Insurance Program, and is also part of several projects funded by NIH, AHRQ and foundation grants.
