Take this opportunity during the Fall to learn about Costa Rican history, society, and culture, improve your Spanish language skills, and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica's Pacific coast.

 

What is this course about?

The Spanish department offers two 3-credit courses where you will learn about Costa Rica's history, society and culture. The two courses will focus on Costa Rica's

  • history and society
  • food and culture
  • environment and peace resolution efforts

Will we travel to Costa Rica?

¡Sí! We will travel at the end of the academic semester.

Tentative date: December 28, 2024 - January 11, 2025. 

What will we do there?

You will have the chance to improve your Spanish language skills by taking daily classes with Costa Rican teachers. Also, you will live and interact with host families during your time in the country.  You will take dancing and cooking lessons, tour the Manuel Antonio National park, visit the city of Quepos, and enjoy local food, and the country's Pura Vida worldview.

 

Great! What courses I should be enrolled in to participate?

You must register SPAN-390 with Dr. Dianne Moneypenny and SPAN-390 with Dr. Félix Burgos. These courses are offered by IU East.

Are there any prerequisites?

  • Minimum GPA: 2.75
  • You must have completed SPAN-S 150 or taken an equivalent placement test.

 

Course Fees

Estimated total cost per student (not including credit hour fees or scholarships): $3400

IU East students are eligible to apply for scholarships and financial aid!
