Procedure to Apply and Enroll

Date

 

On a first come, first served basis after the Wednesday, April 3rd meeting [4]

Deposit $50 fee (non-refundable)[5] into the “HSS Student Travel” account

  • Call (or go to) IU East’s Bursar’s Office: 765-973-8345
  • Deposit the money into the “HSS Student Travel” account: #23 686 05
  • Keep a copy of the deposit confirmation for your records
  • Email Profe Burgos (fburgos@iu.edu)
    -- A PDF (or screenshot or photo) of the deposit confirmation
    -- A letter of intent (see details below)

April 19th

Acceptance letter sent to selected participants
(upon receiving this letter, you’ll be allowed to register for both sections of SPAN-S390)

Wednesday, August 21st

Deposit TBA (of your own money) into the “HSS Student Travel” account

Mid-September [6]

Final Payment is due
[The amount will depend on final cost of program and final amounts of non-competitive scholarships]

[4] Maximum number of participants is 12.

[5] It will be refundable only if for some reason you are not being selected for the program, but not if you change your mind.

Letter of Intent

This letter needs to include:

  • Your first & last name, email, Student ID#
  • Two references (i.e., name and contact information of an IU full-time instructor we could contact if need be)

Points to address in the letter:

  • Why do you want to study abroad?
  • What would be the benefits of this study abroad?
  • Why do you want to go to Costa Rica?
  • How will this study abroad program contribute to your overall academic/career goals?
  • What would be the anticipated long-term effect of this study abroad program on your study and/or career plans?
