THIS CLASS IS DELIVERED 100% ON-LINE WITH CANVAS.
This course will introduce students to health/wellness coaching skills and practical application to facilitate behavior change. Skills learned in this course will include key concepts of the coaching perspective (separate from traditional sports coaching), developing clear vision for change, building on success, as well as tools for open inquiry and active listening. Students will complete online quizzes to assess understanding of core concepts and complete practice coaching sessions to demonstrate coaching skills.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completing this course, students will:
- Understand definition of health/wellness coaching.
- Apply appropriate coaching skill in live coaching experiences.
- Develop clear communications for various clients.
- Discriminate between research supported methods of coaching and opinion based ideas.
PRINCIPLES OF UNDERGRADUATE LEARNING (PUL.):

Course Communication:
- ALL written communications must be clear and use college level writing skills.

- This email will be checked daily for the duration of the course.
- Only messages sent through Canvas will receive a response.
- Responses to inquiries are generally sent within 48 hours of the original message.
- Canvas will be the main method of communication with the instructor. Students are responsible for any information contained emails received from the instructor, as well as responding if necessary.
- Announcements– Be sure to check the Announcements page for course information throughout the course. Students are responsible for any information contained in announcements.
- Comments & feedback on assignments– The instructor may provide additional feedback via the 'comments' option on quizzes and discussion posts. Students are responsible for reading and responding to this feedback.
- Communications between students must be conducted with respect and all information shared in this course is considered confidential and will not be shared.
Online considerations:
- This course is taught entirely online.
- The course requires 6-9 hours of work each week.
- It is essential to have consistent internet access to succeed in this course.
- You must be able to watch video, listen to audio, and access Canvas to complete this course successfully.
- Lack of internet access is NOT an excuse for failing to meet class requirements.
- There is a Canvas app for iPhone & Android.
- As an online course, the majority of learning is based on individual reading, writing assignments, and coaching practices. Students must understand best practices for personal study habits and learning styles to meet the ongoing requirements for this course. It is imperative that you take the initiative and stay on top of your assignments.
- Some online assignments include viewing a video. You will need Adobe Flash to view the videos.

GRADING CRITERIA:
Multiple assignments are included in this course to develop student understanding of behavior change theories and build skills for health/wellness coaching. The term “assignments” includes any item where students earn points. Each assignment has a specific due date. Students are expected to complete all assignments on time. All writing submissions must be at a college level of writing, providing correct APA style citations, developing clear thoughts, and using correct grammar and spelling.

LATE POLICY AND MAKE UP:
No late assignments will be accepted for this course. If you miss a deadline, focus on the current week's assignments and complete the available extra credit to make up missed points.
Ask for Help! If you are struggling, or if you have any special needs or conditions that I should be aware of, please let the instructor know as soon as you recognize the issue. Allow time for appropriate resolution of issues.
ADMINISTRATIVE WITHDRAWAL POLICY:
A basic requirement of this course is that you will participate in all class meetings and conscientiously complete all required course activities and/or assignments. Keep in touch with me if you are unable to participate or complete an assignment on time. If you miss more than half of the required activities within the first 25% of the course, you may be administratively withdrawn from this course. Example: Our course meets online if you fail to complete more than half ofthe requirements in the first 4 weeks of the course you may be withdrawn. Administrative withdrawal may have academic, financial, and financial aid implications. Administrative withdrawal will take place after the full refund period, and if you are administratively withdrawn from the course you will not be eligible for a tuition refund. Disability Accommodation POLICY:
Students needing accommodations because of a disability will need to register with Adaptive Educational Services (AES) and complete the appropriate forms issued by AES before accommodations will be given. COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES (CAPS):
During the semester, if you find that life stressors are interfering with your academic or personal success, consider contacting Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). All IUPUI students are eligible for counseling services at minimal fees. CAPS also performs evaluations for learning disorders and ADHD; fees are charged for testing.
