Course Description: This course teaches essential concepts for participation in occupational therapy clinical supervision, management, and entrepreneurship in healthcare and community settings.
Student learning objectives
- Analyze the relationship between individual characteristics and the roles and functions of leaders and managers in occupational therapy practice.
- Apply professional ethics and standards of practice to resolve organizational conflicts within the practice setting.
- Demonstrate understanding of reimbursement systems and funding mechanisms in occupational therapy practice and effectively communicate the need and rationale for services.
- Analyze the impact of policies, contextual factors, and evolving service delivery models on occupational therapy practice, and apply strategies to advocate for the profession and support effective program planning.
- Analyze business aspects of occupational therapy practice, including financial management, reimbursement, and strategic planning, and apply grant funding strategies to support program development and implement quality improvement processes for effective entrepreneurial service delivery.
- Develop strategies for competency-based, legal, and ethical supervision of occupational therapy practitioners and non-occupational therapy personnel to ensure effective, collaborative, and accountable service delivery.
Grading Scale - To meet the quality standards for a graduate professional degree in occupational therapy, a student must earn a minimum grade of a “C” (73%) in all courses credited toward the graduate degree
