Writing Support Center

All IU East students enrolled in writing classes or classes that require writing are encouraged to use the Writing Center located in Springwood Hall 202F. All Writing Center services are free to students and are designed to help them succeed academically and gain confidence in writing.

Students may come to the Writing Center as often as they like. Writing Consultants are available at all scheduled times to help students:

• Brainstorm for paper ideas
• Select an idea from several choices
• Discuss course readings
• Work on a rough draft
• Work on mechanics (comma splices, etc.)
• Revise a draft for a better grade

Online Consultations

Using our online service, IU East and IU Online students can submit questions or papers 24/7 (excluding campus holidays). Papers must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents. Simply log in with your IU user name and passphrase. Once you have logged in to Upswing, click on "Upload an assignment for review" and follow the on-screen instructions to submit your paper.

Regarding papers, the daily submission per undergraduate student is 10 double-spaced pages, and the daily submission per graduate student is 20 double-spaced pages (Master's level only). Students may submit the same paper twice provided they have revised after the first submission. Consultants may need between 12-24 hours (excluding campus holidays) to reply to your questions or review your papers.
