What Is the Video Reflection Assignment?
This video reflection is an opportunity for you to review the process that went into your Explain Speech. Consider carefully and critically your speech preparation, your presentation, and your time as an audience member for the explain speeches of your classmates. See pages 205-206 in your text.
Why Is a Reflection Important?
As you progress in this class from your first speech to your final speech, you will gain important knowledge and skills. With each step, you make choices about your topic, the examples or stories you use to support your main points, and how to present all of this information. You will also watch many of your classmates do the same things. These choices are part of the learning process. The feedback you receive is designed to help you gauge the value of the choices you have made and help you make effective choices in the future.
What Is the Assignment?
Watch your speech recording from your speech presentation. Your instructor will post a link from your class's speech deliveries. It is then your job to record a video reflection on what you learned as you prepared and presented your Explain speech. The recording should mention choices that you made as a speaker and how you could or will adjust those choices in future presentations. Please make sure to organize your thoughts in your recording. Think about what is being asked and how your answers will help you become a better speaker.
How Should I Organize My Reflection?
There is no strict organizational pattern for this video recording, but we strongly suggest you use specific examples in your reflection and cover all three aspects: speech preparation, presentation, and your role as an audience member. Use the explain speech assignment rubric and feedback to help you develop and organize your reflection.
