Historical Perspectives on ORPHE Assignment
There are many important people and critical events in the history of Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Human Ecology (ORPHE). In this assignment we will learn from each other about some of those people and events (prior to the year 2000). Each student will research a person or event, create one power point slide that highlights the significance of that person or event to the field of ORPHE, and make a brief presentation in class. The presentations, collectively, will constitute our class lesson on Tuesday September 8 (and Thursday September 10, if needed). I will fill in gaps in the presentation.
What you need to do:
- Choose one important historical event (prior to the year 2000) significant in the arena of Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Human Ecology or a person whose work has been instrumental in regard to Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Human Ecology.
- Note your choice accordingly by writing your name on sign-up sheet (if you want to highlight an event or person not on the sign-up sheet, please speak with me).
- Create one PowerPoint slide with the following information:
- Name of event/person
- Picture(s)
- Highlight the importance of this person or event to the field of ORPHE (why the event was significant or why the person is important)
- Important dates regarding this person or event
- Citations for where you retrieved the information (these can be included in a second slide
- Submit your PowerPoint slide to Assignments in Canvas by NOON on Monday, September 7th.
- Present your PowerPoint slide to the class on Tuesday, September 8th.
- Describe the importance of the event/person.
- Be concise. You will have approximately 2 minutes.
