Outdoor Update Assignment
Topics related to Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Human Ecology (ORPHE) are frequently in the news. It is likely that your social media feeds include stories that you can relate to ORPHE. This assignment allows us to keep informed on current events pertinent. Each class session, two or three of you will present a brief Outdoor Update. In each update, you will find a news story or other document that you have become aware of through social media or other outlets for current events.
You will be responsible for the following:
- Select a news story or current event document relating to ORPHE and sending me a web link to that story by 12:00pm (noon) the day before you are scheduled to present your “Outdoor Update.” This will provide me time to post the link for the entire class so that they and I will be able to read the story, watch the news clip, or listen to an audio file before discussion in class the next day.
- Present a synopsis of the story to the class (two minutes) in which you describe the issue or event, identify the connection to ORPHE, and identify the key points and players in the story/event.
- Prepare three questions for the class to consider as you discuss the story.
- Lead a discussion of the issue, being prepared with follow-up questions if class participation is lagging.
