ORPHE Research Review Assignment
Practitioners in Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Human Ecology (ORPHE) depend on the best available science and research to guide their work. It is essential that we become aware of key literature in the field and keep updated in order to provide the best experiences for recreational users and park visitors as well as managing the special places entrusted to us. In this assignment you will each be responsible for reading two articles from the peer-reviewed literature or technical reports prepared for outdoor recreation and park management agencies on a topic of your choice (both articles/reports will be on the same topic). You will then write a short paper (750 word minimum, 1,000 word maximum) that: 1) describes the topic; 2) describes the research methods; 3) synthesizes the research findings from the two articles/reports; and 4) suggests management practices based on the findings. You will also write a one paragraph abstract that briefly summarizes the topic, the research methods, and the research results from the two articles (150 word maximum). Your abstract will be submitted to a Canvas Discussion. You must also comment on five abstracts submitted by your peers. Your comments should be in the form of questions about the research they are reporting on or a statement linking their report to yours. This paper will be due and submitted through Canvas by 11:59 pm on Thursday October 8. Comments on your peer’s abstracts will be due by 11:59 pm on Thursday October 15 (Through a separate Discussion submission).
