Title IX & Incident Reporting
Discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct policy
Indiana University prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of age, color, disability, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status (“protected classes”) in matters of admission, employment, housing, services, and in its educational programs and activities.
What is Title IX?
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance". Sexual harassment and sexual violence are forms of discrimination. Sexual misconduct creates a hostile environment that can affect the targeted individual's ability to learn, work, and engage with the university equally.
IU's policy on discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct is here to protect our campus community and applies to interactions between peers as well as superior-subordinate relationships. It doesn’t matter who you are—if you experience sexual misconduct, it isn’t your fault.
Indiana University will not tolerate sexual violence or other acts of sexual misconduct, and will take action to prevent and address these incidents.
