One of the main doubts most people have when dressing for the job vacancies is: what colour to wear? This concern is really important and affects both men and women, as the interview is the first impression the person will make on the potential employer. So it is very important to choose the right clothes and also the right colour.

What we wear communicates a lot about who we are, what we think, and colours play a fundamental role in this process. As I always say, they can lift or drop a look. In addition, they also send different signals to our brain and elicit different responses. Therefore, betting on those that most please the eyes of employers is the best solution.

A study published by CareerBuilder revealed that black and blue are considered the best colours to use in a job interview, while orange is the worst. But, everything depends on the company and the desired position. The image that the candidate for a position projects to the recruiter can be decisive. It is not about wearing designer clothes, but about choosing accessories and shades of clothing that will help to strengthen the message you want to convey.

According to a survey conducted by the Careerbuilder.com portal in the United States among more than 2,000 recruiters from different companies and sectors, blue and black are the most recommended colours, with 23% and 15% of the preferences, respectively. While orange was the most reviled colour for linking it with unprofessional people.

Psychologists and specialists in public image explained that the tones of clothing influence people's perception, from which they process information and emotions differently, said the general director of the Trabajando.com portal, Margarita Chico.

“My first question when a client comes to the consultancy is what do you want to communicate? Based on this, the entire wardrobe is assembled, ”said public image specialist and personal shopper  Monica Bravo.

Navy blue, says Bravo, is the ideal shade for general job interviews. Combined with white, they project confidence and calm at the same time.

Let's go the colours:

Blue : shades of blue are great for interviews, as they convey the image of a calm and trustworthy person. Especially dark blue and navy are ideal for a more formal job interview, as they inspire confidence. If the interview is for a more creative job, prefer more vivid shades of blue, as the navy can present a very conservative image.

Brown : it is a neutral colour and evokes tranquillity. It is a good colour for interviews, as it is not distracting. It portrays a warm and reliable personality, but it can convey the image that you are simple and old-fashioned, qualities that are not exactly positive in job interviews. Therefore, if you want to send a message of having a vision of the future or modernity, try to avoid brown.

Black : colour that conveys leadership and that most prints authority. Black is very popular for any professional environment. It is a good choice if the interview is for a higher position, as a manager, director or for a job in a law firm or bank. For a more casual office, black can be very dominating.

Gray: grey works well for interviews because it is not flashy or domineering and feels sophisticated. The colour also says that you are logical and get to the point. This colour works well for interviews in almost every field. If it is an interview where you can show a little of your personality, bet on a grey look with colourful accessories, such as a scarf , scarf or handbag .

Red : red transmits a message of power, but not in a good way. Because it is a strong and aggressive colour, it can be considered positive for areas such as sales and politics, but for professional hiring, red can transmit rebelliousness and dominance.

Orange : considered the worst colour according to the CareerBuilder study , orange can convey little professionalism, as it is a colour very associated with fun. Therefore, it is preferable to save orange for the weekend's looks.

White : means trust, purity and honesty. Shows a reliable and organized personality. This is a great colour for a blouse or shirt as it gives a clear touch to sober looks. Both white, as well as off-white or beige can show calm and disposition, someone who manages to maintain tranquillity amid a chaotic environment.

In general, it is safer to bet on neutral Heroine tones. But if you are going to participate in an interview for a job in a creative or not very formal area, don't be afraid to use certain colours, for example, the purple that conveys the message of originality, and the yellow that conveys optimism, creativity and dynamism!
