Introduction to outdoor recreation and parks within a human ecological framework, defined as the study of the complex and varied systems of interactions between people and the environment. Examination of societal, recreation applications, and emerging recreation and leisure trends that have direct application to human ecology. Following are the course goals: •To help students understand the basic tenets and historical influences of the field of outdoor recreation and parks in a human ecological framework. •To help students understand the social and economic impacts of outdoor recreation and use of parks. •To make students aware of the constant relationship between outdoor recreation and the natural environment and the strategies to manage these interactions and the protected areas in which they occur. •To enable students to investigate first-hand the places that outdoor recreation programs are implemented. •To review characteristics and responsibilities associated with the professional careers of outdoor recreation, parks, and human ecology.
