Study at the best social science university in Germany on a campus centered around a palace! Students can take English-taught courses in Mannheim’s School of Social Sciences as well as courses of general interest elsewhere in the university. Only students in psychology or neuroscience (major, certificate, or minor) are eligible for this program.

The College of Arts + Sciences offers Programs for International Experience.  One program is Arts + Sciences Program for International Research and Education (ASPIRE). The ASPIRE Program provides you with opportunities to study what interests you while you explore another country. You can pursue personal and professional development while making progress toward your degree.

The ASPIRE Semester Links to an external site. program provides you an opportunity to complete IU GenEd credits in Salerno Italy.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship

The Gilman-McCain Scholarship Links to an external site. provides awards of $5,000 for child dependents of active duty service members to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs (see website for all eligibility requirements). If you know of students who may meet the Gilman-McCain eligibility, please either let us know (and we’ll reach out to the student) or suggest the student contact overseas@iu.edu for more information. The next Gilman-McCain Scholarship is due October 5, and includes awards for study abroad in spring, summer, and fall 2022.

If you are pursuing a Bachelor of Arts you must demonstrate proficiency equivalent to the fourth semester. For our Bachelor of Science degrees third semester proficiency is required.

The Summer Language Workshop Links to an external site. is the most diverse program of its kind in the United States, offering intensive study in more than 22 languages and at a variety of skill levels. Earn one year of language in 2 months!

IU Language Flagship Links to an external site. Programs in Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Turkish offer the opportunity for professional level language proficiency. These innovative learning programs include considerable study abroad and internship opportunities. You can study any major and work toward a Language Flagship but you will want to look into these programs as early as possible.
